Woman Owned and Operated! Closet Prep & Paint was created by Teressa Grijalva.
Her journey began when she started working for Closet Factory as a designer. She was trained in the fundamentals of design and quickly fell in love with the industry. She recognized the importance of listening to the client, providing a design that would meet their needs, include their “wish list” items, and fit their budget; but soon recognized the need for professional closet preparation. She loved the design process and working with people to solve their organizational problems. She designed new closet organizer systems and then Closet Factory would handle the installation of the new system. However, when it came to guiding the client on what to do about preparing their existing closet by removing the rods and shelves and painting the walls, she could offer no solutions. So, Teressa began offering closet prep and paint services to her clients exclusively (until fellow designers found out about it and wanted her to provide the same services to their clients as well).
Teressa immediately recognized an industry need because she knew that closet organizer companies don't prepare and paint walls! They only design and install new closets! So, she decided to bridge the gap between design and installation by creating Closet Prep & Paint, a company that specializes in preparation of the walls prior to the installation of new closet organizer systems! Now, Teressa is able to offer these services on a much broader scale and supports the entire closet organizer design industry.
After leaving Closet Factory, Teressa designed for Closets By Design. She was responsible for convincing the company to implement a process of designing spaces with CAD software and worked closely with the company to ensure a smooth transition from their former process to the new software. This new process allows the design to be visually created with the client. After measurements are obtained, the designer can place sections of long-hang or double-hang rods, shelves for shoes and folded clothes, drawers and cabinets. Designers are experts in determining the best placement for certain closet features, so Teressa knows that basic design standards should be left up to their discretion. (For example, will doors open without hitting obstacles? How many shoes will the design hold? What is the best placement for accessories?) Once the client is satisfied with the basic layout design, other visual effects such as color, raised panel door/drawer fronts, moldings, backing and hardware can be applied using the software.
Designing with CAD software allows designers to create a finished design that could be viewed in three dimensions and from different angles on the initial consultation! Years ago, closet companies drew designs by hand with messy white-out and endless revisions, which left clients confused. But today, the use of CAD designing software is quickly becoming a new industry standard…and the clients couldn’t be happier about it, as it gives them an interactive visual of the final product!
Because of her background in designing, Teressa understands the installation needs of each closet company, the needs of their clients, and the importance of having existing rods/shelves removed and walls freshly painted to provide a truly beautiful space in which to install the new closet organizer system. Scheduling the prep and paint work 1-2 days prior to the closet company’s installation date minimizes the disruption to the client and saves them hours of exhausting work.
